Step #2 Important Domain Name Tips.

Choosing your domain name is an important step and doing it right can make a difference. Keep in mind that we live in an information driven world. People will look for products, services and information about what they want on the Internet more and more every day. You want the domain name to be something relevant, that people will be able to type in, remember and associate to you, not just an assortment of letters.

Can you name the web site what you want the business name to be? Many Fortune 500 companies know that a customer automatically wants to type in the company name for the URL. For example:

If you notice here on Do Web 4U the URL is the same name doweb4u.com. The downside of having a name 15 or 20 letters long, is the risk of misspelling when typing it out.

The other end of the spectrum has very short domain names such as General Motors is gm.com and Merrill Lynch has ml.com. Registering the domain of your name has also become increasingly popular and is no longer just for celebrities, sports figures, lawyers and politicians.

Be prepared that quite often the name you had in mind may have already been taken. Most sites to register domain names will offer up several other possibilities if the one you wanted is not available. It would be wiser to steer away from just adding the s or by making one letter different to get your competitors customers typos. That may seem clever but can really backfire.

Since you are going to invest time and money in your web site it makes sense that you are the owner of that domain name! Check the details of some packages that offer free domain names as some have clauses that the domain is only available while you are hosted with them. Do not allow anyone, not even a web designer, to register your domain name on your behalf. It is better for the domain name to be a done deal before moving on to your next decisions.

A case in point, a retired boxer was shopping around for quotes for a site of his name and one of the quoting designers immediately registered the boxer's name and forced the boxer to cough up $500 to get the domain name from him since he did not get the design job. Don't let that happen to you, register the domain name yourself. Step #3 can help you to focus in on what information to gather up. Do Web 4U of Las Vegas will be happy to make your idea of a web site a reality.
